ABOUT BACKYARD TRIVIA

Backyard Trivia is designed to be played collaboratively with your friends. This is our FREE Sampler and includes rounds from a few different monthly games. It will take about 60 minutes to complete. One person should act as the host, but the host can play along too, just don't scroll to the answers until you are ready!

RULES

  • There will be four rounds with five questions each round.

  • The first three rounds will each have five available point values for the round (i.e. Round One values are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

  • Every time you answer a question, you must assign one of those point values to the answer. Do this before the next question is read.

  • You can only use each point value once per round.

  • You will earn points equal to the point values assigned to each correct answer. You cannot lose points for wrong answers.

  • Round Four scoring is different. See the round description for details.

  • Some rounds have Backyard Trivia Bonus Questions where you score additional points for correct answers. The answers to these questions are found at the end of the answer section for that round.

  • Some questions have optional HINTS. There is no penalty (or shame) for getting a HINT.

  • The highest possible score you can achieve is 100.

ROUND ONE: GEN Z SUBCULTURES

Cottagecore - Dark Academia - VSCO Girls - E-Kids - Fandoms

[1,2,3,4,5]

-

Q1 R1

Cottagecore, or Farmcore, is a popular subculture among Zoomers where individuals take pride in being self-sufficient. They bake their own bread and grow their own food. But how Farmcore are you? Match the following phrases with the correct vegetable. Each phrase is a piece of planting/growing advice from almanac.com.

The vegetables are:

Garlic, Sweet Corn, Beets

The pieces of advice are:

A - Start your first round in early spring, as soon as the soil is workable;

B - Very sensitive to frost, it requires a long growing period of frost-free weather;

C - It’s most often planted in the fall and harvested in the following summer.

-

Q2 R1

Dark Academia draws inspiration from classic literature, Gothic architecture and Ivy League schools. Founded in 1636, what is the oldest institution of higher education in the United States?

HINT: It is regarded as one of the most prestigious schools in the world.

-

Q3 R1

VSCO Girls, who love baggy t-shirts, scrunchies, and eco-friendly brands, rejoiced in 2015 when a viral video by marine biologist Christine Figgener prompted many companies to ban what single-use plastic item?

-

Q4 R1

The term E-Girl, originally used as a derogatory term, was recently reclaimed by the E-Girls and E-Boys of Gen Z. E-kids curate their online personas with a mix of emo, mall goth, Japanese street, and K-pop fashions. They have racked up millions of likes and follows on what social media app that became globally available in 2018?

-

Q5 R1

Gen Z has traded in the subcultures of previous generations for fandoms. Instead of being something like a nerd, Zoomers are more likely to be a nerd/fan of a specific thing, like the manga TV series Naruto. Fans of the show and comic books can be seen on social media doing what, while leaning forward with their arms stretched out behind their backs?
